Meet Fluffy
An eight year survivor of hormone positive late stage breast cancer, Fluffy’s all-time high weight of 325 pounds set her up with a high risk for recurrence.
Some of you may know her as Fluffy from FluffyChixCook.com, an LCHF (low carb healthy fat) food blog they kept for many years. When Fluffy became seriously ill with complications from breast cancer treatment, they were forced to take a long leave of absence from the blog, FCC. The blog still lives, but is no longer updated because Fluffy’s interests took a turn toward bariatric nutrition and lifestyle management.
When she hit the miraculous 5 Year No Evidence of Disease (NED) anniversary, her oncologist started talking to Fluffy about bariatric (RNY) surgery to help her achieve normal weight. He worked to educate Fluffy about how bariatric surgery could help save her life, possibly reduce the high risk of cancer recurrence she presently faced and might give her quality years with the people she loved. (She had a less than 50% chance of living 5 years when she was diagnosed-so this was new territory for her.)
After working for nine months to improve her chances of post-operative success, Fluffy had RNY bariatric surgery in February 2018. Her recent high weight before surgery was 287 pounds and she entered the bariatric program at Baylor University at 256 pounds. On the morning of surgery Fluffy weighed 222 pounds and had lost an impressive 65 pounds due to hard work, focused efforts and the support of her bariatric nutritionist (RD) and surgeon.
Today Fluffy maintains a goal weight range of 130-135 pounds and is considered normal weight for an adult female. In all, she’s lost 157 pounds.
Because of her weight loss and healthy lifestyle, her risk of breast cancer recurrence is greatly improved and she is loving life and learning to minimize the effects of chemo, radiation and surgeries through adopting a fitness routine for wellness that includes a focus on healthy nutrition.
After successfully navigating the bariatric journey during the past 3 years, she’s learned a few tips and tricks that might help other bariatric patients use their new tools to full advantage. By creating and reinventing how they think, feel, and interact with food during the honeymoon period and beyond, it’s possible to live a new life! And Fluffy helps connect people with their new tools for success.
“We created Bariatric Accountability Club (BAC) to fill a need we recognized in the WLS community. Many people did not understand what or how they should be eating. Success after WLS is directly tied to post-operative support systems and many bari friends have no form of support group-either online or in real life.”
BAC, is designed to help people who have had any form of bariatric surgery learn about nutrition and exercise while developing new healthy eating habits and lifestyle habits-wait for it-while living their best life!
BAC provides a private membership space on Facebook where we can have live daily support and interaction with a bariatric community who understands the highs and lows of post-surgery bariatric life. Whether you are trying to get to goal the first time or dealing with regain, BAC can help you remain focused.
BAC is a multi-platform interface: daily support on Facebook in addition to face-to-face group support meetings, book club meetings, cooking classes, and fitness activities and challenges via Zoom. We are also friends on MFP and have access to real time Food Diaries. Need meal or recipe inspiration? Done! There’s even 1-on-1, face-to-face accountability coaching available for members.

Feedback & Reviews
Find out what a few of our favorite bari healthy people are saying about Fluffy!
” Fluffy has had such a positive effect on my journey. From the beginning, it was no secret that Fluffy was knowledgeable and willing to help anyone who would ask. Unlike many people today, she tells you how it is, even when it may not be what you want to hear. It’s hard to put trust in a stranger, but when that stranger truly cares, it takes those worries away and that’s what I’ve found with Fluffy. She truly wants everyone to succeed and be healthy. I appreciate all the advice she has given me. From a stranger, to someone I now consider a friend, I can’t thank Fluffy enough. “

“Bariatric weight loss is not easy, I met Fluffy after I had a regain in my third year. She supported me through the mental battles and getting back on plan. I worked the weight back off and I’m maintaining five years out. “

” I have been on this journey for two years, now. Well, 10 if you count my first gastric band in 2009 or so, which was great for a couple of years but then broke. I thought I’d keep the weight off, but didn’t as I hadn’t changed my habits – so when it broke, I lost my ‘policeman’. So I had bariatric surgery again at the very end of 2017 and this time, I committed myself to real change. I have lost almost 100lbs – or 130 from my heaviest 2009 weight. And now, two years later, the challenge is to keep it off, to keep running and to keep eating healthily. I was lucky to have my surgery about the same time as Fluffy. Her relentless energy, her scientifically grounded research, and her boundless enthusiasm have really inspired me to stay on track! “
